Mycenae - Lion Gate

This is the Lion Gate, the oldest stone carving in Europe that was created from a single stone circa 1250 BC.
The gate also marks the entrance to the fortress leading to the remains of the Royal Palace and graves where German archaeologist, Heinrich Schliemann, found 15KG's worth of gold treasures, which are now on display in the National Archaeological Museum in Athens.
There was supposedly a big gold carving on top of the two lions, unfortunately, it was stolen away!

Received an email last night, that I have won the Third Prize to the NATAS-Mastercard Photo Competition 2009! :D
Took this photo while I was traveling in Greece~ Objective was to have a photo taken overseas with a Mastercard logo in it. I wouldn't have participated in this contest until one of my tourmates mentioned about this during the tour! And going through the thousands of photos to search for this photo for submission...

This is the well-preserved ancient Theater of Epidavros that is famous for its acoustics. Dating back to the 4th century BC, this theater is able to seat 12,000 people!
